Guy Landau will hunt the West Somerset Vale hunt hounds

  • Former king of the showring Guy Landau is going for a third change of career in three decades — hunting hounds for the West Somerset Vale.

Guy, 43, started out as a jockey, first in point-to-points and then under Rules, notably riding Lean Ar Aghaidh to third place in the Grand National in 1987.

In 1994 he took over as a showing producer from his stepfather Roy Trigg, having great success with John Dunlop’s show hunters.

At this year’s Horse of the Year Show Guy and John Dunlop both bowed out of the spotlight, along with their prolific hunter champion Finn Mc Cool.

But Guy told H&H at the time: “It is time for me to achieve new things. I will still be riding horses but outside of showing from now on.” (News, 15 October).

Now Guy tells us: “I take over as joint-master next season but am trying to keep it really low key and don’t want to discuss it.”

A spokesman for the hunt said Guy would also hunt hounds.

Guy said he looked forward to making his debut at the West Somerset Vale in a new era, if the Conservatives win the general election and the Hunting Act is overturned.
