Horse owners are once again being urged to keep an eye on acorns this autumn after a horse in Berkshire died from acorn poisoning.
Earlier this month H&H warned horse owners to be aware of the dangers after recent weather patterns created a “bumper crop”.
A mare was found dead in Wokingham last week (Monday 17 October) in a field near Blagrove Lane.
The RSPCA received calls from concerned locals but the horse was not removed until two days later on the Wednesday as the owners were unable to be contacted.
“People should be aware that acorns are palatable to horses but can poison them, so they should be cleared from any areas where they are grazing,” a spokesman for the RSPCA told H&H.
