  • Frankie Dettori is no longer Godolphin’s principal jockey.

Frankie had been senior jockey at Goldolphin for nearly 20 years. But earlier this year Silvestre de Souza and Mickael Barzalona also joined the team.

Godolphin spokesman Simon Crisford last Wednesday (30 May) confirmed that Frankie was no longer the team’s main retained jockey.

“They will all get equal opportunities,” he told The Guardian. “Frankie has to share the cake and understands that.

“I thought we made it reasonably clear at the time [of signing the other two] that, if any one of them struck up a winning combination with a certain horse, the chances are they are going to stay on that horse.”

Following the announcement that the 41-year-old Italian jockey would not be riding Godolphin’s sole runner in the Oaks, Kailani, rumours spread that Frankie was retiring.

But he quickly dismissed them, saying he hoped to be riding for “at least another five years”.
