Farriers help police at NATO summit

  • Welsh farriers were on duty at the NATO Summit in Newport earlier this month (4-5 September), providing a 24-hour call-out for police horses.

Brian Hughes, Mike Hughes and Rory Hill, from BR & MD Hughes Farriers of Pencoed, provided an emergency service to the mounted sections.

The farriers usually look after riding horses, racehorses, hunters and sports horses across Bridgend, the Valleys and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Brian Hughes, who is also master of the Llangeinor Pentyrch Hunt said; “We’ve been established for nearly 40 years this year and we’re proud that a traditional trade like ours has a role to play in security today.”
