  • Christian Marner, husband of Fiona Marner of Kingwood Bloodstock and former manager of Kingwood Stud, has died.

Mr Marner, who was born in Denmark, died on 14 February. He was 71 and had been suffering from cancer.

He was an enthusiastic and successful owner and breeder of racehorses.

He had horses in training with David Morley and Jimmy Fitzgerald and, more recently, John Hills and Nicky Henderson.

Among the best horses he owned were the jumper Polar Region and the home-bred Stakes winner Cragganmore.

The latter was a son of Christian’s foundation mare Special Guest, who was the dam of eight winners, including Hoh Chi Min and Special Beat.
