Cynthia Haydon, the outstanding hackney driver of the 20th century, died on Sunday, 16 September at her home at Adlestrop, Glos. She was 94.
With her late husband Frank, Cynthia produced generations of hackney horses and ponies for both sides of the Atlantic.
She regularly won championships at Wembley, White City, county shows and in Canada and the US.
Daughter of the hackney trainer Robert Black, Cynthia married Frank in 1939.
They set up the Hurstwood hackney stud in Sussex, moving in 1958 to Shovelstrode, East Grinstead, in 1973 to Lower Slaughter, Glos, and in 1980 to Adlestrop before retiring in 1995.
Mrs Haydon’s funeral takes place at Adlestrop on Tuesday, 2 October.
