Excitement builds around H&H co-buying scheme

  • The new Horse & Hound co-buying initiative has attracted massive interest from both readers and the wider equestrian industry since it was first announced on Wednesday (17 October).

“We have been inundated with hundreds of requests from readers for products to feature in our new co-buying channel,” explains H&H website editor Carol Phillips. “We have also had a number of potential suppliers get in touch to find out more about the service.”

Co-buying works by gathering together people who want to purchase a particular product and then driving down the price from the retailer to give everyone the best possible deal. The more people that sign up to buy the product, the less everyone pays. It’s that easy.

Among the most popular items being requested to date are riding boots and clothing from popular brands including Ariat, Pikeur, Musto, Caldene, Joules and Mark Todd. Readers are also keen on joining together to drive down the cost of horse rugs from brands including JHL, Mark Todd and Weatherbeeta, while the opportunity to invest in more expensive items such as showjumps, saddles and hay steamers is also proving attractive.

H&H forum member Nicnac said: “I would be interested in high end products i.e. expensive breeches, riding/country boots, show jumps (Jump for Joy for example), yard equipment and saddles.”

Fellow forum member ajn1610 says: “I agree with Nicnac. Yard equipment would be excellent. I want a HayGain steamer and Jump for Joy cross-country style fences this winter. I wouldn’t buy these independently but if you could negotiate a group discount I’d definitely be interested.”

While Happy Hunter suggests: “Jodhpurs, bridles, rugs, buckets, shirts, cross-country tops, helmets, boots… anything really — I would be swayed by a good price!”

The first of the Horse & Hound co-buys will be unveiled on Monday, but the H&H team is keen to keep receiving your requests in the meantime.

“The more requests we receive for a particular item, the more likely we are to be able to source these products for you, so please do keep sending in your requests via the forum, facebook comments (below) and using #HHwishlist on twitter,” says H&H website editor Carol.
