Equine vet of the year shortlist unveiled

  • Vets from Staffordshire, the New Forest and West Sussex are all up for the Petplan equine vet of the year award 2009.

Alan Hough, Gil Riley and Ed Lyall have been named as finalists for the prestigious award, which will be presented at the Animal Health Trust (AHT) awards ceremony in London on 5 November.

Alan Hough worked in the New Forest, Gil Riley works at Pool House Veterinary Hospital, Lichfield, Staffordshire, and Ed Lyall is from Arundel Equine Hospital, Arundel, West Sussex.

Horse owners across the UK have nominated vets they feel have gone above and beyond the call of duty, resulting in Alan, Gil and Ed being shortlisted for the award.

The winner will be selected by a panel made of Peter Webbon, AHT chief executive, British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) president Chris House, Alison Bridge editor in chief of Horse & Rider magazine and Jo Whitaker, marketing development manager for Petplan.

“It has been incredibly difficult choosing just three finalists out of all those entered”, said Ms Whitaker.

“The nominees this year have all been truly deserving and have shown outstanding devotion to their profession. We have all felt very humbled as well as delighted by the stories we have been sent.”
