Equine welfare charity HAPPA has closed one of its two rescue centres, in order to “consolidate” its work and invest in its main site near Burnley, Lancs.
Staff at Gregory Farm, near Chepstow, have been made redundant.
The land is for sale and horses previously kept there have been rehomed or transferred to the Burnley centre, Shores Hey Farm.
In a statement, HAPPA chairman Ken Cranage said he accepted the closure had “alienated” many supporters, but the decision was necessary to ensure the charity’s survival.
