Driving competition to run at Belvoir Castle

  • Belvoir Castle is to be a new driving venue for 2014, after the Duke and Duchess of Rutland agreed to host a two-day driving competition next year (31 May-1 June).

The event will be run by the Midlands Driving Trials Group (MDTG).

The Leicestershire venue has previously been used for the CLA Game Fair, and has flat fields for parking, dressage and the cones competition. The 12-13km marathon course will take place through woodland, around fields and over hills around the estate.

The Duchess of Rutland said: “We are looking forward to having horse driving trials on the Belvoir Estate and we are delighted to welcome the Midlands Driving Trials Group to Belvoir Castle.”

Dave West, chairman of MDTG, added: “We are very excited about holding a competition at such a prestigious venue and hope that all driving trials competitors will make a note of the date in their next year’s diary, certainly one event not to be missed.”

The club has secured financial backing towards running costs, but asks anyone interested in sponsoring an obstacle or other aspect to contact Geoff Goodwin, tel: 07966 226687.

Full details of MDTG’s 2013 competitions, schedules and entry forms are on www.mdtg.co.uk or call 01630 661314.
