Charity dinner to aid vandalised RDA centre

  • TICKETS are being sold for a charity dinner to aid the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) at Nuneaton and North Warwickshire Equestrian Centre after it fell prey to vandals.

The three-course dinner — to be held at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on 8 December — is being organised by local businesswoman Helen Holley who had the idea of turning her transport company’s staff Christmas dinner into a charity event.

Helen said: “I read in a local paper about the RDA centre’s problems with vandalism — over the summer they had fences broken down and some of the horses were chased out onto the road. So I’m hoping to raise £5,000 so they can purchase security equipment such as CCTV cameras.”

The evening will include a disco and an auction, with a helicopter ride, flying lessons and meals for two going to the highest bidders. Helen said any other donated lots for the auction would be gratefully received.

“I’ll pay for our seven staff to attend and then hopefully sell the remaining 150 tickets for £35 each. The centre hasn’t received much help from the community and local businesses, so they’re over-the-moon that we’re helping them,” she added.
