Celebrate racing at Epsom over the August bank holiday


  • Epsom Downs racecourse celebrates the sport this August bank holiday weekend (28-29 August) with a “fun festival”.

    For the first time the annual family fun day will be combined with the Epsom trainers’ open day to make a weekend of activities.

    On Sunday (28 August) trainers in the area will open their yards to the public from 10am-1pm. There will be a free shuttle between the yards. Prior to that, at 9am, racing fans can watch racehorses working on the gallops.

    And at the family fun day on Monday (29 August) there will be a parade of ex-racehorses, pony rides, farriery demonstrations, a Shetland pony derby as well as the chance to meet jockeys. There will also be races for children along Epsom racetrack. Children under 18 get in free.

    “I am really looking forward to our first festival of fun,” said Epsom Downs’ managing director Rupert Trevelyn. “We look forward to welcoming the local community and hope that families come along to enjoy the racing, entertainment and facilities at Epsom.”

    There will also be free racing at the Surrey track on Tuesday 30 August.
