New BE league boasts £8,000 prize-fund

  • British event riders and owners just short of senior teams are in line for new awards this season.

British Eventing has launched the Britannia League trophy and £8,000 prize-fund for the top 3 highest ranked horses and British rider combinations who have not competed for Britain at senior championship level.

Eventing owner Nigella Hall introduced the league and is financially backing it to “acknowledge the talent we have beyond the senior team”.

“The eventing scene in Great Britain is second to none, with an enormous depth of talented riders at the top level,” she said. “Owners are an essential part of the sport, so hopefully recognising top-ranking horses and riders will be a mark of respect and thanks to the owner of the leading horses.”

British Eventing points will be accumulated throughout the 2014 season at British CIC3* and CCI3* events, and FEI CICO Nations Cup competitions.

The owner of the leading horse will receive a bronze trophy, while a £5,000 bursary will go to the leading rider, £3,000 to the second and £1,000 to the third.
