BE Championships cancelled for 2012

  • The British Eventing (BE) novice, intermediate and open championships will not be held this year, British Eventing has said.

But all riders qualified for the cancelled 2012 Dodson & Horrell Novice, Smith & Williamson Intermediate and British Eventing Open Championships will be eligible to take part in next year’s championships, run as part of The Festival of British Eventing 2013.

A spokesman for British Eventing said it had worked closely with the organisers and consulted competitors entered into this year’s championships to agree the best way forward.

The 2012 Festival of British Eventing (13-15 July) was cancelled due to the wet weather.

“The organising team here at The Festival are very happy to accommodate all three championships that are going to be carried forward to The Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe Park next year,” said Mark Phillips, co-organiser of The Festival of British Eventing.

The 2013 championships will be open to those competitors who were entered and qualified to compete at the 2012 Festival of British Eventing and those who qualify via the normal route for the 2013 Championships.

But if in the interim period those combinations qualify for a higher level championship they will be obliged to compete at the higher level.

BE is also aware that because a number of novice regional finals were cancelled many of those eligible did not have the opportunity to qualify for the 2012 championships.

It is therefore considering various options on how best to address this.
