New ITV1 series features rehomed horses

  • A new ITV1 series called Auf Wiedersehen My Pet is tackling head-on the emotive subject of people rehoming their pets. 2 horses are among the animals featured.

The 20-part series is about pet owners who have had to decide to give up their animals.

Each programme will focus on one owner and their pet, as they are given the opportunity to meet potential new owners, get to know their families and see around their homes.

The first equine episode, which followed the re-homing of an Irish thoroughbred mare called Skye was broadcast yesterday (Tuesday 18 March at 2pm), while the episode featuring a gelding called Rocky will be on Thursday 27 March at 2pm.

The equine re-homing organisation Horses4Homes was asked to be involved in the programme by Shine TV. Rocky was the subject of a post from Horses4Homes on H&H’s Facebook page last November to drum up prospective applicants.

Re-homing manager Rebecca Evans said: “We knew he was going to be involved in the TV programme, so wanted to raise his profile. The post was extremely well-read and, as a result, the quality of the applicants that came forward for him was very high indeed.

Of Horses4Homes’ involvement in Auf Wiedersehen My Pet, Rebecca added: “It was an incredible experience to be the equine expert for the programme. We hope that it will not only help to raise awareness of the charity’s work, but also help the general public to better understand some of the awful circumstances forcing owners to re-home their pets.”
