Applications now open for racing graduate scheme

  • Do you want to work in the racing industry?

Applications are now open for the British Horseracing Authority’s (BHA) 2012 graduate development programme.

In the past, 300 graduates have completed the programme, which has been running for nearly 20 years.

Graduates from previous years now work in management positions in racecourses, bookmakers, trainer’s yards, studs, bloodstock sales – and Horse & Hound.

The programme starts with a comprehensive two-week residential course usually held in Newmarket in July, which includes a wide range of speakers, field trips and networking opportunities.

The course shows how the various aspects of the sport work together and gives an insight into many of the organisations and functions within the industry.

Graduates then go on to their paid placements, which are usually eight weeks. Placements include at The Racing Post, Weatherbys, Tattersalls, Coral, Totesport and the British Champions Series, as well as at various racecourses

“This programme is great opportunity for anyone is who keen to break into a career in racing,” said Samantha Morris from the BHA.

“It is well-recognised within the industry that this programme produces high-quality candidates, who go on to make a positive contribution to the sport in variety of areas.”

The closing date for applications is 28 February 2012.
