A Polo For Heroes tournament is to be held this summer by St Albans Polo Club, in aid of military charity Help For Heroes.
Polo For Heroes will take place at the club on Saturday 24 July and aims to raise money to help injured British serviceman.
The idea was conceived by Tristan Welch, head chef of Launceston Place in London and polo fanatic Clare Dingwall when they met at a Chefs For Heroes fundraiser last year.
“As the evening progressed it became apparent to us that we all have a duty to the service men and women who on a daily basis put their lives on the line for our country,” said Clare. “We share a passion for polo and food so what better than a gastronomic polo tournament to raise funds for such a worthy cause?”
There will be two matches — the first a military team versus a civilian team at 3pm. This will be followed by a celebrity match between [former world boxing champion) Steve Collins’s Warriors versus [former drummer with The Who] Kenney Jones’s Gang at 4pm
Players and horses are to be confirmed.
The event will also include a three-course dinner prepared by Tristan, wine, auction and raffle. Tickets cost £10 per car and £100 for dinner tables.
