Chance for two riders to get eventing funding and training

Northamptonshire stabling company — Scotts of Thrapston — is offering two amateur riders the chance to form their eventing development squad.

Scotts is sponsoring Carlton Horse Trials in Bedfordshire (31 July-1 August).

And the company is inviting two local riders to become their team for the event — with subsidised training with members of the British Eventing (BE) coaching development team, squad kit and free entry to the horse trials.

Julia Berrie of Scotts said: “By setting up our squad we are raising the profile of training for amateur riders and giving two people the framework and incentive to develop within the sport.

“Amateur riders often get overlooked when it comes to funded training and development opportunities, but training is vital for amateurs so they can enjoy their sport safely.”

Riders who are new to BE are invited to apply along with those who hope to move up the ranks, but they must be aged 12 or above.

The chosen riders will receive four half-price training sessions with Nick Turner and Caroline Moore — covering cross-country schooling, rider preparation, rider nutrition and the right way to walk a course.

BE eastern regional director Chris Farr said: “The concept of encouraging amateur riders to get involved in training is one that I applaud. Training at all levels is an essential requirement of competing and I am sure this initiative will be successful.”
