Applications now open for 2010 British Horseracing graduate scheme

Youngsters hoping to pursue a career in racing can now apply for the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) Graduate Development Programme 2010.
The graduate scheme, which has been running for 20 years, is designed to provide an insight into the complex world of horseracing.
It includes a variety of residential courses, field trips and networking opportunities, and students also undertake an eight-week placement at a choice of organisations, including the Racecourse Association, William Hill and Letherby & Christopher.
Previous graduates have gone into a broad variety of positions within the industry, including work in bloodstock sales, the bookmakers and the press.
“It was a very appealing programme that I hoped would jump-start my career in racing,” said 2005 graduate Sophie Hodgkinson.
“It gave me a fantastic insight, and following the programme I was offered a job at Huntingdon Racecourse. Now, at 26, I am the youngest racecourse managing director in the country.”
