National Equine Forum puts art on its programme for 2010

Next year’s National Equine Forum (NEF) will have something extra for art fans.

The forum is due to take place at the Royal Society in London on 4 March 2010. It has broadened its programme to feature equine art and history.

Alongside lectures about veterinary, political, legal and sporting matters, there will be some light relief in the form of two separate presentations entitled “The Horse in Painting” and “The Museum of the Horse”.

John Stainton, the international director for Sporting Art at Christies, will be speaking about the role of the horse in painting.

“The horse has always been a key subject in sporting art, and through the work of British artists such as Stubbs, Landseer and Munnings I hope to engage the audience in a visually exciting presentation,” he explained.

Caroline Anns-Baldock, who posed as Lady Godiva when riding her racehorse to Whitehall in a campaign for a UK Museum of the Horse, will then review the newly established online Museum of the Horse.

A diverse array of topics will be covered in the rest of the National Equine Forum, ranging from gastric ulceration, worm management and licensing laws, to training for world-class Paralympics and the legalities of horse identification.

The controversial HGV licence laws, the Horse Tax and the Hunting Act will come also under scrutiny.
