A piebald gelding rescued by the HorseWorld re-homing team is taking part in Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) on 8 October.
Six-year-old Oscar will be ridden by Hannah Ladd, of Weston-super-Mare, in the working hunter section of the SEIB Search for a Star competition, starting at 11.45am.
When he was rescued by Bristol-based charity HorseWorld as a yearling in 2004, Oscar was suffering from a respiratory infection and his owners were unable to care for him.
Sasha Holden, the equine charity’s head of re-homing, said: “It is always hugely rewarding to see one of our horses doing so well and representing HorseWorld at such a high level.
“We are delighted that Oscar has had so much success with Hannah and are sure that they are a winning combination.”
Hannah, 26, has had Oscar on loan from the charity for five years. She met him while she was working there as a groom and was determined to give him the life he deserved. They qualified for HOYS in July.
She said: “I’m so proud of Oscar. He has behaved impeccably so far, but now I want to wrap him up in cotton wool until we compete on 8 October.
