New bridleway for horse owners under construction in Yorkshire

The latest new bridleway in the Yorkshire Dales is under construction as part of the 200-mile route from Derbyshire via Yorkshire to Cumbria.
Some 3.5 miles of track will be created from scratch between from Garsdale Station towards the northern border of the national park.
Peter Lambert, the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority Pennine Bridleway Project Officer, said: “We have a unique opportunity to create a new section of bridleway through the magnificent Dales upland landscape.”
He continued: “The newly created section will run from the Coal Road at Garsdale Station, across Dandry Mire to the Moorcock Inn, before heading across to Yorehouse and joining The Highway, a historic route which will lead users out to Mallerstang.”
By March 2010 the National Park Authority hopes to have completed the majority of the work on the bridleway, with just a small percentage left to complete in 2011.
Currently, 48 miles of bridleway runs across the Yorkshire Dales National Park, mainly consisting of old packhorse trails and drove roads.
The National Park Authority is now looking to encourage people to open new hotels, B&Bs and rental accommodation along the route in order to provide for the growing band of riders and walkers.
