Team gold for British children at show jumping Europeans

Great Britain’s children's show jumping team (formerly known as children on horses) secured team gold at the Children’s European Show Jumping Championships in Moorsele, Belgium last week (24-26 July).

Corinne Bracken, chef d’equipe for the British children’s team, said: “I’m thrilled with the team’s achievements today. They’ve been absolutely superb and I’m extremely proud of them all.”

Following a faultless first round, Great Britain was tied in first place with host nation Belgium, just one fault ahead of Spain.

Although team members narrowly missed out on individual medals, Amy Inglis riding her father’s mare Happy Ending, Ella Curley riding Simon Paul’s Lucky, Laura Robinson riding G Robinson’s Cashmira and James Shore riding his father’s Pascal IV, all performed superbly.

In what proved to be a nail-biting competition, Laura Robinson only knocked one fence in the second round over a substantially raised course, while Amy Inglis and Ella Curley jumped a faultless double clear to leave Britain on 4 faults.

“We have not only seen great talent coming through, but the importance of team spirit and the role it can play in achieving success,” Corrine added.

Team results: 1st - Great Britain, 2nd - Belgium, 3rd – France

Individual results: 1st – Larissa Notz (SUI) 2nd – Barna Burucs (HUN) 3rd – Jos Verlooy (BEL) 4th – Ella Curley (GBR); Amy Inglis (GBR); Vicky Vandelpoel (BEL)
