A neglected pony with twisted and overgrown hooves has been removed from a field near Pyle at Brigend in Mid Glamorgan.
The RSPCA is appealing for information about the Shetland gelding, which a local vet estimated as being between seven and nine years old.
RSPCA inspector Julie Fadden said the pony was having difficulty standing.
She said: “This pony was subjected to heartless neglect, hobbling painfully on overgrown hooves.
"It’s vital we receive more information from the public and I’d urge anyone with knowledge of this incident to contact us as soon as possible.”
The dun pony was found on Tuesday 16 June in a field on the outskirts of Pyle.
The owner of the land where the pony was found said it may have been there a month. He said his land is sometimes used for unauthorised grazing.
Anyone with information should call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
