A new Horsewatch scheme for the Wetherby and Harewood area of West Yorkshire will be launched on the first two days (14-15 July) of the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate.
Led by police community support officer (PCSO) Dan Siller of Wetherby police station, the scheme comes a year after a successful Farm Watch scheme was launched.
PCSO Dan Siller said: “Farm Watch has been very successful in bringing farmers together to share information and catch criminals.
"The crimes are mainly poaching, the laying of traps and the theft of small agricultural machinery.
"Now we’re going to do the same for horse owners. We will be asking people to join up, register their horses, giving descriptions of them, and then they can sign up for a text service where I can warn members of suspicious circumstances and generally feed the horse community valuable information.”
