Breyer creates model of schoolboy's pony Pippin

To celebrate The Pony Club's 80th anniversary this year Breyer models has created a new character based on a real British pony.
Pippin, a 21-year old Connemara pony, owned by eleven-year-old Oliver Jones of Denbigh in Wales, won a national competition to find a hero pony to model for the new plastic character.
A year ago Oliver's essay competition entry describing why Pippin was such a wonderful pony charmed the judges and scooped first prize.
Oliver, who's a member of Fleet and Denbigh Pony Club, said Pippin helped him develop his riding and horse skills, and gave him responsibility and self-confidence.
The first hand-crafted and painted model was delivered to Oliver and his mum Katie.
Oliver said: "I think the model is so cool and just looks like Pippin. The fact that it is my pony is the best thing and I feel very proud. I know now I will have him forever."
Breyer began making plastic models of horses in 1950 in the USA.
Between seven and 12 people are involved in hand painting every model.
Previous models include Red Rum, Milton, Seabiscuit and Locarno 62. A percentage of all sales of Pippin's model will go the Pony Club.
