Mountain and Moorland ridden ponies and workers shared the spoils with show ponies on the third day as the six-year-old Connemara, Dancing Hero and Elinor Strapp claimed the M&M worker title. The new combination has been show jumping over the winter and were placed in British novice and discovery classes at the BSJA Blue Chip championships.
“We’d seen a pony advertised in Horse & Hound that we went to see last year,” said Elinor’s mother Tamara,” but we ended up buying him instead. They are competing at their first BE event at Bordehill in two weeks.”
Peppa Barnett’s section C gelding Peasdown Party Popper headed the 138cms to take reserve.
Welsh ponies captured both ridden titles with Lady Anne Vesty’s section D, Kentchurch Galaxy and Richard Telford heading David Bright’s section C stallion Waxwing Rheel partnered by Bobby Bright.
“This is his first full open season,” said Anne, “although he went to Olympia as a novice.”
Alexa Choynowski took the mini show pony title with her first ridden pony Fofsway Perdita. Alexa has also gained her Royal International ticket with her new show hunter Woodview Cadenza. Martin Skelton led Ellis Taverner-Burns and Barkway Make Believe to reserve.
Lizzie Smith claimed both open and novice show pony championships with her mother’s Hollowmarsh Oliver, a 148cms five-year-old gelding by Cusop Dimension. Millie Wonnacott and Broadgrove Jester stood open reserve for Ann Fowler.
“This is their first season together, said Ann, “and they took supreme at White Rose County last week.”
Molly Walsh, who partnered both Pennyroyal Brown Sugar to head the 128cms novice show pony and the 138cms Newoak Gold Dust for Penny Carvosso and Gita Jago, took the 138cms into the final challenge. However, it was Rebecca Harvey, who took up the reins on Pennyroyal Brown Sugar, who claimed reserve on the four-year-old homebred mare.
