A brave donkey has come to the rescue of a sheep that was being attacked by a dog.
The donkey, called Dotty, fought off the Staffordshire bull terrier, which was savaging the sheep in a field in Scarborough.
She rushed to Stanley the sheep’s rescue from a neighbouring paddock — pinning the dog to the ground until it let go of the sheep.
A witness told a local paper: "It was a total frenzy, and so frightening. I tried to hit the dog with a piece of drainpipe but I left it because the donkey was doing a better job."
The sheep will survive but has sustained severe injuries — including a disfigured and paralysed jaw.
The dog was put down. Police are questioning its 18-year-old owner.
