An investigation is underway following the death of two horses during a point-to-point meeting at Detling in Kent on Saturday, 14 March.
The horses are reported to have fallen during the second division of the maiden race at the West Street Tickham hunt meeting, and then run loose on to the A249.
One was struck by a car, but Kent police have confirmed that both animals suffered severe injuries and were put down by a vet on the scene.
“Nobody else was injured in the collision, and no other vehicle was involved,” said a police spokesman.
Both the Point-to-Point Secretaries Association (PPSA) and the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) have launched investigations into the incident.
The BHA’s course inspectorate is visiting the Detling course this week, and the association has asked organisers to compile a report of events.
A BHA spokesman said: “Until the investigation over this very unfortunate incident is concluded and the facts established, we are unable to comment any further.”
