Online auction to raise funds for Australian fire and flood victims

An Australian bloodstock auction house is hosting an online auction to raise funds for the victims of the Victorian bushfires and Queensland floods.

Many horses were left without feed or shelter after the fires last month and floods in January.

Over 400 stallion nominations or services from at least 26 horse breeds have already been offered in an effort to support the equine industry. The auction is run by William Inglis & Son Bloodstock and will be held in conjunction with Australian equine charity Project Hope Horse Welfare Victoria (PHHWV).

Director of Inglis, Mark Webster said: “Stallion owners Tristan Bryan and Heather Studdy are to be commended for initiating this auction to help the entire equine community that have suffered in the fires and floods.

“The money raised will be used to assist with the welfare of horses and their owners. Many owners are unable to feed their horses with barren or drenched paddocks, many no longer have facilities to maintain the safety of their horses and other require expensive ongoing medical treatment. This is a great opportunity for all horse loversto unite for a worthy cause. Our goal is to raise Aus $1m for PHHWV.”

Most of 400 donations so far are from pleasure and performance breeds — including large numbers of warmbloods, Arabians, Welsh ponies, Quarter horses and miniatures.

The auction will be held online at www.inglis.com.au from 20-24 April.
