Injured soldiers are to benefit from this year’s Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials.
The Gloucestershire event (7-10 May) will be supporting the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) in the wake of the rising number of war casualties, by donating 10% of all programme sales to the charity.
Controller of the Army Benevolent Fund, Major General Sir Evelyn Webb-Carter said: "With the ongoing losses in Afghanistan and Iraq, we are constantly reminded of the rising casualty rates and the increasing demands on the ABF and our resources in the future.
“Now more than ever is when we need support from the public to help us look after those soldiers and their families, so being part of this high profile event couldn't have come at a more valuable time for us.
“We are extremely happy and honoured to have been chosen as charity of choice for Badminton Horse Trials 2009."
Major Richard Waygood, former riding master of the Household Cavalry and a past competitor at the event, is supportive of the move.
He said: "I'm so pleased the Army Benevolent Fund is Mitsubishi Badminton Horse Trials chosen charity for 2009. They work so hard for soldiers and are very close to my heart.
“To have such a worthy charity that needs our support benefit from such a prestigious event is fantastic."
