British Eventing accredited trainers Nick Turner and Caroline Moore are the latest equestrians to be awarded the fellowship of the British Horse Society (BHS).
Nick, who has competed at events including Badminton, Burghley CCI**** and Saumur CCI***, said: “It was something I never thought was within my grasp.
“I have always been involved in and enjoyed coaching and teaching and it is fantastic to achieve recognition.”
Nick has produced horses from novice to CCI**** and was chef d’equip for British riders at Compiegne in 2007 as well as being senior international selector for British Eventing.
Caroline is based at Vale View Equestrian Centre in Leicestershire and is in her third year of the British Eventing coaching and development programme under Yogi Breisner.
She is also involved in setting up new performance and safety workshops and assisting younger competitors at 1* and 2** level.
“It was my life ambition to be a fellow of the BHS,” said Caroline. “I hope I will be able to work with the BHS in the future, to show the different aspects of the sport.”
The two-day examination was held at Moreton Morrell College in Warwickshire on 30 and 31 October.
The candidates had to show their expertise and knowledge in all aspects of training and educating the horse and rider in front of a team of 8 examiners.
Chief examiner and chairman of the BHS Patrick Print said: “We're delighted to have Nick and Caroline as new fellows of the society.
“Not only were they able to demonstrate a high level of skill both as riders and teachers in their chosen discipline of horse trials, what particularly impressed us was the fact they were down to earth, practical, common sense horse people.”
