Ministers in the shadow agriculture team in London received a delivery of fresh produce with a particularly low carbon hoofprint.
After a two-day journey, the hamper arrived at Westminster by horse and cart from the Ethical Food Company in Buckingham.
The trip was an exercise planned to draw attention to the plight of farming communities and to alternatives to supermarkets. More habitually used for weddings the carriage toured Parliament Square before heading up Horseguards.
Leader of the Opposition David Cameron has since written to the Ethical Food Company’s Joe Dugdale with his thanks. He applauded not just the ‘delicious’ hamper, but also Joe’s support of local farmers.
Online farmers’ market the Ethical Food Company sources its stock exclusively either from local or organic producers.
