Internationally renowned dressage rider and trainer Georg Theodorescu died on 21 August following a stroke — he was 81 years old.
Georg was born in Romania on 1 October 1925, but was later based at Gestüt Lindenhof in Sassenberg, Germany. He represented Romania at Stockholm Olympics in 1956 and then moved to Germany where he rode and taught. In 1996, Georg was honoured the German Golden Cross for his dressage achievements and was given the title Reitmeister (riding master) in 2005.
Georg coached his daughter Monica to three Olympic gold team medals riding Ganimedes and Grunox. Together they trained Whisper, Monica’s new Olympic hope, with whom she is on the German team at the European Championships in Turin next week (29 August – 2 September).
Georg was also responsible for training Russian team star Alexandra Korelova and Balagur, who finished seventh at CHIO Aachen last year.
As well as his daughter Monica, Georg leaves behind his wife, Inge.
