Horses disfigured in Aberdeenshire

A yard in Aberdeenshire has become the target of a series of horse attacks.
Grampian Police are appealing for information after hair was cut from the manes and tails of horses at Balhagerty Farm in Laurencekirk. A total of 27 horses have had hair removed on 16 different occasions since January 2007, with the last attack occurring on 18 March.
Only a small section of hair is being removed from each horse, baffling police and the horses' owners.
"It appears the attacker wants to disfigure the horses – some pieces of hair are cut short whilst the rest is left long," said Sergeant Kenny McGeough who is leading the investigation. "There would be no commercial value for the hair."
Each attack has happened at night and as yet no horse has been injured. Grampian Police are urging people in the area to be extra vigilant and on guard for any suspicious people or vehicles.
