  • Women in Racing (WiR) — a not-for-profit organisation created to boost the profile of women in the sport — has launched a £2,000 bursary programme to go towards career development in the industry. The fund has been generated from membership, educational events and fund-raising initiatives.

WiR invites its members, who can be at any stage in their career within any sector of horseracing, to apply for an award of up to £2,000. Women will need to submit an application to show how the bursary will be used, such as for training, qualifications, industry events, equipment or funding for a business start-up.

WiR chair Sally Rowley-Williams said: “Horseracing is a diverse sport although women are poorly represented in the various boardrooms and at the most senior levels governing the industry.

“There is, however, an abundance of talented women involved across all levels and sectors and we are proud to be able to nurture their growth.

Membership to WiR is open to all women with an interest in horseracing. Annual membership is £25; concessions are available. Visit www.womeninracing.co.uk.
