Applications open for graduate racing course

  • Are you keen to work in the racing industry? Then why not apply to the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) graduate development programme.

Applications for the 25th programme are now open to recent graduates or those graduating in 2015. A background in racing is not essential, but a great interest in the sport is.

The 10-week programme begins next July with a fortnight’s residential course in Newmarket followed by an eight-week placement with one of the programme’s sponsors.

Last year there were placements at BHA, Horseracing Betting Levy Board, Racing Enterprises, The Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association, The Racecourse Association, Racing Post, Timeform and Weatherbys and a variety of posts at Jockey Club Racecourses and Arena Racing Company.

70% of the graduates from the 2014 programme were offered full-time jobs with employers ranging from Cheltenham racecourse, Lingfield Park, Epsom Downs racecourse to Great British Racing International and Bloodstock Media.

“The programme works as an entry point for graduates from all backgrounds hoping to start a career in racing, offering wide-ranging insight and ‘behind the scenes’ access to the workings of many of the industry’s different component parts,” said the BHA’s Will Lambe.

The selection process is demanding with over 300 applications competing for an average of 18 placements.

    Applications are open until January.
