Top prize for Irish team chase

  • Hunt team chase secures substantial two-year sponsorship from Ireland’s leading bookmaker

Paddy Power, Ireland’s leading bookmaker, is to sponsor the 2002 International Hunt Team Chase, one of the four events that make up the International Sport Horse Show at Punchestown in May, to the tune of 60,000 euro over two years.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Ken Robertson, marketing manager of Paddy Power, said that it is an excellent opportunity for the company.

The hunt team chase is a speedy and exciting event where rules are kept to a minimum, and fun and excitement are brought to the forefront. Paddy Power has a natural affinity with the racing and national hunt industries, and we are delighted to bring such a high-profile and internationally recognised tournament to the Irish public,” he said.

More than 30 teams from Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe are expected to participate in the International Hunt Chase on Sunday, 19 May.

Each team has four riders, one of whom must be a lady, another a hunt official (such as a master or whipper-in) and a third a veteran or heavyweight.

Teams race against each other over identical courses in a relay format, with the team whose last rider is first home declared the winner.
