RSPCA’s actions questioned following charges against the Heythrop

  • An MEP is calling on the Charity Commission to investigate the “political activities” of the RSPCA – which he believes are in breach of its charitable status.

Roger Helmer, who is the UKIP MEP for the East Midlands, made his comments after the RSPCA issued summonses on 52 Hunting Act charges against the Heythrop, which hunt in the Prime Minister’s constituency.

“When the RSPCA engages in contentious political campaigns, it calls into question its right to charitable status,” said Mr Helmer.

A spokesman for the Charity Commission said it would assess his concerns.
