Default Do you have a phobia of being watched?

Do you have a phobia of being watched?

We are looking for a case study of a rider who suffers from nerves when people are watching them – whether it’s out competing, schooling at home, or caring for your horse at a livery yard.

We would be particularly interested to hear from anyone who has taken professional advice to overcome their phobia.

Please email jennifer_hughes@ipcmedia.com with details about yourself and your experience.

Hahaa nope tooooooo vain
At shows I always video my dressage or SJ rounds so I can analyse them later to try and correct my mistake (often quite a few)

But I do hate riding when people are watching and making useless or bitchy uncessary comments especially when I know they could not do any better
On a large yard a lot of people seem to suddenly gaggle together and feel it necessary to interupt you and give you their opinion - which would be great if it was constructive and Helpful!
These situations make anyone feel uncomfortble and It has made me change my hours of riding or lessons from time to time

my dad has help a few of the riding club members over come their nerves in the team jumping and they did say they thoroughly enjoyed it after wards. When I was Area Training Rep I organise a NLP session with him and the members before a big qualifier.

I can't compete and it takes me 4 or 5 times of riding in front of some-one before I stop being so self-conscious and actually start to ride rather than sit there like a lemming!
But I've never had a suitable horse to compete on so never had to overcome it. Not terribly helpful I'm afraid.

I HATE it - I have a very low self esteem so don't like anyone watching me. At the same time I can find it spurs me on - I jump higher when people are watching me! Wierd I know

I hate being watched especially when I ride, I think its probably because in various jobs I've done you're constantly being assessed and watched critically and when I ride, that's my chill-out time and I don't want anybody spoiling it. I don't compete for this reason, I just know that if I was in a situation of being "watched" I would totally lose it and do really badly.

Yes, I do. I'm fine when show jumping or doing XC but fall apart in the dressage phase because of the judges watching and judging my riding. Its the vain of my life and is seriously holding us back eventing
