Default NFU Policy Changes????

Hello all,

I just received a letter about NFU policy changes saying that they no longer have specific exclusions, but instead it is anything you have ever suffered from?

Is this for real? Does this mean you are not covered for anything you have ever called the vet for?

Sorry if I am being dumb?

Many thanks,

Fiona

All policies will exclude pre existing conditions whether you've claimed for them or not. I think sometimes people forget this. I have heard people say they are not going to claim for something because they don't want it on the insurance forgetting that your insurance company can at any time contact your vets and request a complete history.

Before the policy change I had an experience with NFU when I didn't claim for allergy treatment initially.
When 6 months down the line we needed to do expensive testing I contacted them. What they did was start the claim from when the condition first appeared and let me claim the previous visits and treatment. However it did mean I only had 6 months going forward to claim treatment.

With the new policy they are not listing conditions as exclusions and this has pros and cons.
For example if a horse has something wrong with its hock, some policies then exclude that leg. I know someone with petplan who has the whole leg excluded after a kick.
With NFU it would exclude the condition that has been treated, so you could still claim for say a tendon injury on that leg if it is not related to the original claim.
