Default Buying a new horse - prices??

I am currently looking for a new horse and would like to have some advice on horse prices!!

I may be a little out of date on how much I expect to pay for a horse!

I am looking for around 16.3hh pref Irish sport horse. I have seen a really nice one. Hes 5 and has been backed for a year now. Pops a small fence and rides in a outline so the basics are there. He has a very quiet temperament and confirmation is good enough for hunter classes which I want to do. They are asking £6500. Now i think this is quite a lot of money for a horse that hasn't done anything comp wise but maybe I am out of touch?

Personally I would be willing to pay around £5.5k for a horse like that if it had NO competition experience.

I thought that would be more reasonable, around the £5k mark. Its never seen the show ring before.

Does he have competition lines? Has he been bred specifically for something eg eventing?
