Default Ladies over 50 Hunting

I am now 50 yrs old and I was just wondering how many more years I am likely to be able to safely (Horse permitting) enjoy a good active hunt with jumps. How old is the oldest Lady hunter you know of?

The lady and her husband that I ride for are over 50 and still hunt twice a week.

There are others that I would guess at well over 50 years that I go out with who hunt every week religiously!

I think only you can decide if you are safe enough

There is a lady who hunts with the Heythrop called Lorna Schuster(sp?) And Iam sure she is about 90. She rides a lemon coloured cob such an amazing lady.

I know of a lady who is 83 and her husband who is 86 who still ride regularly - they are both horse owners.
A couple of years ago I asked them if they still hunt - her reply: 'Oh yes, but we don't really jump anymore - well maybe just the odd one or two' - how fab is that?!

Our recently retired field secretary had a combined age of 102 with her horse :-)

There is a lady called Virginia who hunts with the South Dorset and she is ancient and she still jumps everything - quite terrifying.

There is also a gentleman (I call him that because he really is a gentleman) called Noel Pegge who must be in his early 90's who hunts with the Cottesmore & Quorn (or did until I left 3 years ago) and he still jumped everything and was immactulately turned out. He'd been hunting since the age dot and at the time had been to 60 Quorn opening meets at least.

It is more of a gentle hack out for her these days, and she always has an escort - but good on her for still going out. There is an elderly chap in the same field with an artificial leg, I understand.

50 is no age at all

^ I read about the man with the artificial leg in H&H a few years ago - I remember he said his horse at the time really looked after him and 'righted' him when he could feel his weight slipping too far to one side!
