Re: Do you wear hi-vis gear for hacking?
I wear a hi viz exercise sheet and a flourescent breast plate and leg bands all from good old Aldi that I got reduced in the sale! And I have a flourescent tail thing for Bailey. I also have additional cyclist bands that flash and will often put on on his off hind if its a dark day or I am going down a dark leafy lane so I am more visible. I always wear a flourescent tabard and sometimes when I remember to put it on a hat band too. I do get fed up sometimes of people saying "they will see you coming from a mile off" as they think its funny that I put so much stuff on my horse but I'd rather that than not be seen and I do think you get respect from drivers if you make yourself visible to them, bit like when I'm driving and I see someone at a junction waiting to come out and if they are indicating I will often take the time to let them out, if they don't bother to indicate thought I just think sod it you can wait!
I also carry a charged and in credit mobile phone, sometimes tell people at the yard where I am going and always put knee boots on Bailey. I am courteous and always thank people that slow down. I never take risks on the road, NEVER.

Aldi were selling theirs again last week, reduced from £9.99 to £4.99, wrap around flourescent sheet. Got one and a spare!

Re: Do you wear hi-vis gear for hacking?
I always wore hi vis. I was wearing it when we were hit by a car going to fast to stop. The Police told me that if we hadnt been wearing it, the driver could say he couldnt see us and get away with dangerous driving.

Not unless it's weather that would warrent hi viz.
No other road users wear hi vis and everyone manages to see them.

Re: Do you wear hi-vis gear for hacking?
I use hi viz every time we go out, whatever the weather! I have either a waterproof jacket (winter) or a tabard (summer), a hat band, my horse wears 4 leg wraps over boots and an exercise sheet (waterproof for winter and mesh one for summer).

I have heard that having 'young horse' or similar on it is some form of admitting liability, and could therefore act against you in any claim. Ridiculous really as learner drivers where an 'L' but I just use a normal high-viz on my young horse.
