Default Nail Bind... how long to get over it!?

My mare had what we think was a nail bind on saturday, which meant she thought her leg was dropping off
Sunday, she was marginally better, farrier came on Monday and removed shoe, and found nothing hurting with the hoof testers. Put shoe back on with nails slightly lower in her foot. Was barely lame on monday.
Tues, still very slightly short stepping, hardly noticeable, but still there, and the same yesterday.

How long would you normally expect them to be a bit sore until it settles?

    Many thanks

My sisters horse has very steep sided hooves and gets this a lot. Sometimes it can be over in a day, and sometimes will take a week - have to time shoeing carefully with comps etc.

Was she lame in a straight line or on a circle? My sisters horse is often sound in a straight line but takes pottery steps if turned in a circle in hand.

Can take anything from a week up to a month to recover properly.
I've head that cold tubbing helps to ease the discomfort, plus it always a good idea to flush the feet daily with antiseptic.

If it hurt....it was probably worth it!

Ok, thanks. She was lame just standing on saturday (drama queen!) and is slightly short stepping in a straight line, but it was more obvious when I was asking her to cross her legs over on a tight circle (back foot).

The one and only time my horse has had it he was found hopping lame on the Saturday (as you say, like the leg's dropping off!) vet came and took off shoe, gave painkillers and antibiotics as a precaution. We also poulticed for 3 days again just in case there was any pus or anything to come out. He was a lot better by the Sunday, could barely see any lameness by the Monday, shoe put back on and turned out again on the Weds and I was able to get back on him for a quiet ride on the Thursday.

Ok, thanks guys! She has been out since she was lame in a smallish paddock as otherwise she would just kick the s**t out of her stable with nothing else being in. She has improved very quickly, but it's just that last tiny hint of lameness left

Kenzo, will try cold tubbing, thanks.

Thanks alwaysbroke, so do I! Although she is very jolly and cantered up the drive with me in tow when I tried to trot her up yesterday!!

MochaDun that sounds a very quick recovery! However the pain killers probably helped there...? Theres no heat etc or anything which is a good sign I guess!!

Mick gets this as he is flat footed and his feet don't grow very quick.

He is normally lame for a week max. We don't have the shoe took off as the nails would have to be in the same holes or very near.

It doesn't happen very often but its a ****** when it does. Luckily I have never had a comp near when its happened.

Hope Lucky is ok soon. x
