    Default Toothbrush for Horses!

All you EDTs out there what do you think of this. Vet comes to check Jack diastema (1st upper molar left) where he had food packed into it causing root decay, pronounces every thing fine. He does a quick rasp all round and checks front incisors. Oh no, another diastema between those!
Not a problem, though tells me to get a toothbrush and some dental floss and clean it out FREQUENTLY ( what every day - I think), what with that and the dog teeth cleaning ritual, not to mention OH tooth issues.

Ho hum.......... Any suggestions? (or new inventions?)

I have to clean my sons old ponys teeth! Annd break the tartar off with pliers every month and so!! I am a bit slack and only do it weekly now, but she doesn't mind it, and she has the same toothpaste as my lurcher, so I assume its not chicken flavoured!!

You could get one of these new horse toothbrushes but one of those little face brushes works just as well for the incisors. for the uppers flick north to south and for the lowers flick south to north or use your finger nails to pull out the remainder of the packed feed.
For the cheek teeth, sticking the end of a hose between the cheeks and teeth (not too far in!) will wash out some of the packed feed.

But how to avoid getting my fingers bitten off.
Need two hands to hold the dental floss front to back and one to hold slippery tongue!

Need a gadget of some sort to hold the floss and that won't kill horse if he swallows it ( unlike the dental harps OH uses)

My donkey has the same problem so on the advice of my EDT I use a normal human toothbrush and children's mild minty toothpaste daily.

Derby House (in Glasgow anyway) stock Equi-dent Toothbrushes

I like the idea of minty toothpaste, Jack loves extra strong mints.

    Thanks for your advice.
