Hello there, bit gross but thought I would ask on here. My newish gelding seems to be weeing alot. In fairness only noticed this today when out riding him but he had two massive wees in the space of about 10 minutes. no other symptoms so not worrying about cushings just yet - is it just the hot weather maybe? anyone had any experience of this?
N.B he is seeing the vet next week anyway for his dental work but a heads up in advance would be useful.

mine is pissing for england at the moment. wee'd when i got to friend's yard today and then wee'd twice more on a 2.5hr hack. think he must just be drinking lots at the moment as seems fine otherwise.

well that is reassuring!!! I hope its just the weather but it just seemed a lot in ten minutes. When I brought him home just over a week ago he peed in the wagon as well, it was everywhere!!
in the grand scheme of things i don't think weeing a lot is a big deal anymore

Weeing a lot is certainly a big deal, if it goes on for a while I would want to get it checked out - could be kidney function, as well as Cushings, especially if the horse is over 10 or 12 years of age. It is a symptom of Cushings and they don't always present with all of the symptoms - my old Cushingoid arab mare was only showing this plus maybe a few fat pads, and the fact that it was picked up at this stage meant that the Pergolide was really really effective.

Could be a virus (same thing happened with one of mine). Although bearing in mind how hot it has been, I would think he is just dehydrated and drinking more.
Make sure he gets lots of electrolytes etc and keep an eye on him to see if he develops any other symptoms.

If they are normal length wees, then I wouldn't worry too much until the weather turns. Sounds like he's drinking a lot. I had the same problem last night!!!
If they are short wees, little spurts, then that would indicate bladder/urinary tract.
Normal length wees in cooler weather that are frequent would indicate a kidney infection, but right now, I wouldn't worry.

yes both normal length wees. I will keep an eye on him, he is seeing the vet next week for his teeth sorting so I will ask them to give him a good servicing. thanks for the reassurance though!

My horse has a kidney dysfunction and I take these things seriously. When the vet comes, have a convenient wee sample ready for analysis and write down any questions etc you may have.
What colour is his wee? Is it thick? Does he have access to lots of dandylions?
Dandylions are a diuretic and cause frequent urination. I would check his field for other plants with a similar effect.

no dandilions really so not that. I have not noticed him weeing alot since, even in the field and not ridden him for a few days. wondering if it was him drinking lots in the hot weather.
how does one go about getting a urine sample....is it just a case of being in the right place at the right time? :S
