My nan and grandad unfortunately lost their JRT two weeks ago to old age. Spike was a brilliant little dog and the best friend a girl could have - I grew up with him as I used to go round my nan's house every night after school, and teach him all his tricks and obedience and go for long walks together. I will miss him greatly.
My grandparents were adamant they wouldn't have another dog, but both being retired the house is just so empty and quiet without one, and Spike gave them a reason to get up in the morning and get outside and do things. So it wasn't long before Charlie came along.

He likes to steal dishcloths...

I must admit I went to visit in the most foul of moods as I thought it was much too soon to have another one and I was all ready to resent the new puppy as an inferior Spike replacement, but who can honestly hold a grudge against a small wriggly puppy? I know that no dog can ever replace Spike, but maybe one day this little chap might mean something to me too. He is a miniature JRT so very tiny and very sweet, his forehead wrinkles up when he's thinking up more naughty things to do.

What a lovely looking little puppy; very very cute . I'm sure you will miss Spike, it's always sad when our pets die, but this little fella looks like he will brighten everyone's day.

He is very cute. I think you should stop thinking of him as a "replacement" for Spike, who was obviously very special, just look at Charlie as being a new pup in his own right, try hard not to make comparisons. Looks like the new little chap will soon totally worm his way into everyones hearts. RIP Spike.

Thank you all for your replies
He is utterly adorable and I know I can't hold a grudge against him at all. More than anything he has given my grandparents a new lease of life - it's hard to be depressed when there's this little scrap rocketing around the house! For that I am grateful to him already.
And yes Kerilli he still has his tail, Spike had a full tail too - he will not be used for working, except for the odd mousing session up at the yard with me when he's older. He is already showing the grab-and-shake reflex even though he's not directly from working stock which I found interesting. I would not like to be a squeaky toy when he's around!

What an absolute darling !
So nice that your grandparents have him around: Never a dull moment from now on which, I'm sure is the best after losing Spike who will always be the one and only Spike in their heart !
Sounds like the little devil has won your heart already... JRT puppies are so amazing (miss mine so much )
