Should probably post this in the Chuff Chart, and will do so with some pics ... but just had to share with everyone on here how completely knocked out we were today to have our yearling, Fionn, receive a first in the BE Young Event Horse Yearling In-hand at Tweseldown, and Best British Bred, and Best Colt ... Just over the moon for our firstborn to have done us so proud! And given that he has just realised that he is a STALLION (forum members who have followed his adventures will remember that he was very confused about his sexuality until very recently) - and was surrounded by fillies, not least Forester's very pretty roan youngster who he definitely took a liking to, he was not toooooo wild. (Though much editing is going to have to be done of the fifth leg on the photos .... ) Amanda did a fantastic job handling him when he was definitely livelier and BIGGER than he has ever been, and I'm afraid that a few tears were shed on realising that he had been pulled in first!! But there was a real muddle about the announcement of the marks, and we were all given the wrong placings at first, which was really difficult and disappointing for those people who ended up in lower placings. It rather spoilt the final part of the class.

Your boy was brilliant. Wasn't it exciting? I posted in Latest News too . . . . . Well done you, Amanda and not least Fionn.

Famtastic result, congratulations! Just been to look at pics, he is stunning. What are your plans? To keep him entire and compete him? He is the right colour too!

Well done, great result, saw his pictures in Chuff Chart, he is a very striking yearling.
Looks like he will have a very promising future.
Well done to Baydale too.

Congratulations on Baydale's success! We saw some lovely 3 year olds being led around after our class, so you must be thrilled that Baydale did so well against what looked like really tough competition. We really wanted to stay and watch the later classes (and should have stayed for the final championship, but I decided that as it was Fionn's first big event, the longest journey that he had ever made, and he was showing absolutely nooooo signs of chilling out with all the filles around, we should call it a day and end on a high, for which I got much stick!!!)
Lovely to see other HHOers there, and we always feel that you guys are incredibly generous in your congrats, and willing us all on!
Clodagh, we did think for 2 seconds about keeping him entire, but realistically know we can't cope with a full-up 17.2 stallion, and don't want to send him away to live apart from other horses .... so on a "wussy" level, and wanting to keep our guy with us as long as possible, the decision is to cut him I'm afraid .....

That's great, very well done. I think we got there just a bit too late to see the end of the yearling class and tbh showing is a complete mystery to me, a bit like dressage judging.
I was really chuffed with my little fat Jupiter as he's not been anywhere since Tweseldown last year. Alan, who showed him for me, said he just grew when he went into the main arena for the championship and he could hardly keep up with him! Pity his big lanky half brother couldn't have pulled his finger out yesterday too. He's going through a rebellious teenage phase methinks.

Just have to keep him there next year for the final championships tho now G!!! (Well he'd also have to win the 2 yr olds as well then too):)
What interested me though is that it wasn't strictly speaking, showing ...it was judged out of a score of 100, with 25 pts being awarded for each section of Walk, Trot, Type and Conformation. For me I prefer this as it leaves less room for the judge just picking the one they think is 'prettiest' and leaves it down to the overall tally.....

I'll only start looking forward to next year's PAVO after next Thursday! Boy, was Fionn ever smitten with Forester's lovely filly... Guess he knows a fellow HHO baby when he sees one! It was so nice to see him go straight back to being his relaxed personable self again once he stepped off the box.
And another Fionn photo, because none of us can get enough ... getting ready for his big day, a real team effort! And look at that face--butter wouldn't melt!
