Clipper Rash
      #3589935 - 12/10/2008 19:18

has anyone had any experiance of this? my horse was clipped yesterday and this morning her has this rash over him.

gave him a hibiscrub bath this morning which he thorughly enjoyed (especially as he hates being bathed normally) but it hasn't helped, i have left him naked (although i feel really mean doing it) so not to irritate it.

what else can i do bar the vets (will be out in the morning) and am i right in assuming its the clippers?

My old boy got huge fluid filled lumps when I clipped him. I assumed it was a reaction to the clipper oil. I haven't clipped him since and I'm not sure what to use if I need to.

Yes my chestnut gets it... it is actually the oil with her and a few days after they come down

Toff gets a rash when certain clipper oils are used, it's just a case of trial and error and patch testing different oils. I got my own clippers last year and they came with some (Moser/Wahl) and she is fine, doesn't react at all.
Before I got my own, I didn't have much choice as whoever I paid to clip her just used what they had. Just a case of trying different ones

Can clipper rash come up a few days after being clipped? My pony was clipped on thursday, and after working today (when she was sweaty and presumably her pores were open) she has come up in huge lumps. She has been bathed twice since she was clipped though? Does it sound likely?

A TB I clip gets clipper rash but hasn't since I changed my clipper oil - I now use the Barrier Animal Health clipper oil (green and white bottle) which is fab and has the added benefit of smelling of lavendar - relaxes me even though I hate clipping!
